Today has been all about exploring the mountainous areas near Coorg. We started out bright and early, and had a day full of interesting stops on our very bumpy journey. The rural locale where we are now is very lush - it's a key Indian agricultural area, where they grow everything from coffee and spices to rice and millet. This day we saw a little bit of everything: coffee plantations, pig farms, rice paddies, and a few holy sites for good measure. We stopped at schools, hiked through the jungle, and basically stopped and poked around anytime something of interest appeared on the horizon.
My favorite photo of the day (above) was taken at a place known as the Sacred Confluence. It is a "site where three rivers, Cauvery, Kannike and the mythical river Sujyoti meet. The Cauvery is revered as one of the ... seven holy rivers and is considered to be the Ganges of the south."
My favorite activity of the day was getting my very first Aruveydic massage. If you know me, you know I'm a huge fan of bodywork, and love to explore different forms of treatments, especially during my travels. The massage that I had today was simply exceptional. It started by being seated in a chair and having my head and neck worked on while being doused with warm oil. The massage then moved to the massage table where my entire body got the same warm oil treatment (I felt like I was being basted!), while two therapists worked their magic on my muscles. The two therapists worked in perfect tandem - their movements and actions were perfectly synchronized so that both the left and right sides of my body were getting the same treatment at the same time. It was heavenly! The actual massage was followed by a really short but intense steam room session, and then the final step in the treatment was a luxurious body scrub while standing under a rain shower.
All in all a pretty good day, wouldn't you say?
